Idaho Pasture Pigs

At Luna Acres we raise Idaho Pasture Pigs, a relatively new breed that began in Idaho about 25 years ago, when a farmer decided to cross the docile, pasture grazing Kune Kune with two larger heritage breeds, Duroc and Berkshires.  Since that time the breed has developed by harnessing the positive qualities of all three of these breeds to create a grass eating, docile pig that can be ready to go to butcher in about 10 months and produces rich and delicious pork for the table.

In 2018, we first made a trek to northern Wisconsin to purchase our breeding stock from the breed registrar who has all the existing breeding lines on her farm.  Then, we expanded our breeding program in 2021, by bringing in two new sows from the Pacific Northwest. When we started, we were the only registered breeder of IPP's in the state of Kansas, and are grateful to share of our experience and the offspring of our proven high quality breeding stock with our customers.
Meet our breeding boars and sows below!

Millie

Millie is our black and white female (Grace Line) we brought to our farm in 2021 from Oregon. Millie has two wattles, a beautiful snout and build and is a great mama to her piglets. Her first farrowing went well and she birthed the first true cream born on our farm this past fall.  Millie is part of a breeding trio with our brown and white boar Milo and our other sow from the Pacific Northwest, Maisey.  She is a wonderful mother who consistently produces high-quality piglets.

Maisey

Maisey is our cream sow (Jingle Line) we brought to our farm in 2021 from Oregon. She has some great genetics, as her sire was Ulysses, an impressive IPP boar, and this lady looks like her daddy! We love her build - good sized, strong shoulders, great hams - and she proved to be an excellent farrower and mother when she had her first litter this past August. Maisey is part of a breeding trio on our farm with our brown and white boar Milo (Bandit line) and our other PNW sow Millie. We were smitten with her first litter this last fall and can't wait to see what Milo and her have in store for us this Spring! We need to get an updated solo shot of Maisey, but these with her trio give you a good sense of her - she's the cream in the mix!

Nutmeg

Nutmeg (Pepper Line) is our beautiful ginger sow who consistently delivers us gorgeous litters of piglets with some wonderful breeding stock in the mix.  Nutmeg farrows easily and is a great mama to her piglets.  Nutmeg is part of a breeding trio with our boar Nugget (Oreo Line) and her daughter Nellie. We have been really happy with the stock we get out of this trio to pair with piglets from Milo, Maisey and Millie. Can't wait to see her litter that is due this April!

Nellie

Nellie (Pepper Line) is the first of our own stock that we have kept back to become part of our breeding program and oh how we are in love with her.  Nellie is Nutmeg's daughter out of a litter with Moses (Atlas Line), a boar we no longer have in service on our farm.  She is gorgeous from snout to tail and has a great temperament to boot. She has delivered two beautiful litters on our farm with lots of wonderful breed quality stock in the mix. She is part of a breeding trio with our boar Nugget (Oreo Line) and her mother Nutmeg. We can't wait to see her piglets that are due this April!

Nugget

Picture
Nugget is our tri-colored male with that gorgeous upturned IPP snout.  Nugget is full-grown and is a beautiful boar in confirmation and size.  Nugget is a sweet one - he loves back scratches and attention from his people.  Nugget has produced some beautiful piglets with a number of our sows and we are looking forward to his litters with Nutmeg and Nellie this coming April!

Milo

Milo is our new boar that we brought home from White Bison Farms in Wisconsin this past Spring.  He was born a brown and white and you can still see some of that brown in his coat.  He was the first pig on our farm with wattles, which is a fun addition (even if it won't change how good our pork is :)).  He has grown into an impressive boar and has sired four litters on our farm now. We have been so happy with the piglets we have had out of him and are looking forward to our next two sets with Millie and Masiey this April!

Registration Certificates

Each of our pigs are registered with the Idaho Pasture Pig registry. See their registration certificates below to see what lines they come from.  For more information about Idaho Pasture Pigs, click here for the breed registry website. You can also find more information at the Breed Association website, along with a calculator to calculate COI when checking to see if our piglets might be compatible for your own breeding program.  If you are just starting out with your first breeding pair or trio from us, we only sell unrelated breeding stock, so you will be good to go!

We Would Love to Hear from you Soon!
